The album was created by E. Vanessa Hufnail for her children, Clifton Blake and Daniel B. Hufnail. The material spans the years 1880 to 1965, and includes programs, newspaper clippings, articles, typscripts, and photographs. The album documents the Buchanan, Blake, and Hufnail families of Barton, Lowell, and Reading, Vermont, and includes photographs of family activities at the Fair View Farm in Reading, Vermont, as well as portraits of family members. Many photographs show family members and neighbors at work on the farm, including haying, blacksmithing, and milking. The collection also contains many photographs of Roy R. Hall and Daniel B. Hufnail with horses raised at Fair View Farm. There are also photographs of Charles E. Buchanan, including one of him and several classmates in a dissection room at the University of Vermont. The front of the album contains medical articles that may have been pasted there by Charles E. Buchanan, as some of the articles have been annotated. There are also three programs for performances in Reading, Vermont in 1913. Charles E. Buchanan is listed as the business manager on two of them. There are also several typescripts poems, some written by Vanessa Hufnail. As well there are newsclippings of letters to the editor, also written by Vanessa.

Edith Vanessa Buchanan was born in Barton, Vermont on December 31, 1883, the daughter of Edgar M. and Nellie (Evans) Buchanan. By 1900, the family had moved to Lebanon, New Hampshire. On June 30, 1902, Vanessa Buchanan married Austen Isaac Blake (1880-1936). They had one son, Clifton, born May 15, 1903 in Lowell, Vermont. By 1909, Vanessa and Austen were divorced.
